Koyurugijinja Shrine, a Tutelary Shrine of Koshigoe, Offers
Views of Enoshima Island, the Izu Peninsula and the Hakone
Mountains.
Sasaki Moritsuna, who served Minamoto no Yoritomo after
Yoritomo was banished to Izu, built a branch shrine of
Hachiojigu Shrine in Omi Province (current Shiga Prefecture)
here. Later Nitta Yoshisada rebuilt the shrine to pray for
victory over the Kamakura shogunate. The name of the shrine
was changed to Koyurugijinja in the Meiji Period.
