建長寺為鎌倉五山之首，也是臨濟宗建長寺派的本山。由宋朝前來日本的蘭溪道隆在這座寺廟弘揚禪宗，並與幕府建立了密切的關係。本尊是地藏菩薩坐像。宏偉的三門、佛殿、法堂以一直線排列，並且聳立著據說是由道隆播種的巨大刺柏。加了蔬菜與豆腐的卷纖汁被認為是起源於建長寺。每週五、六會舉辦坐禪會。
