Kosokuji Temple

Yuigahama / Hase / Gokurakuji Area

Kosokuji Temple was founded by Nichiro Shonin (1245–1320), a disciple of Nichiren Shonin (1222–1282), at the residence of shogunate official Yadoya Mitsunori (dates unknown), a close aide of shogunate regent Hojo Tokiyori (1227–1263). Kosokuji is known as the place where Nichiren presented his work Rissho Ankoku-ron to the shogunate in 1260. Within the temple precincts, there is an attractive garden with flower varieties blossoming all year round; a particular highlight is the roughly 150-year-old Hall crabapple tree that blooms in early April.
