Ofuna Area

This is a prefectural botanical garden where you can see flowers of every season. Seasonal flowers bloom all year round, so you can enjoy them no matter what season you visit.
 
● Peony
This garden boasts one of the largest numbers of peonies in Japan, with about 2,000 plants of about 200 varieties, mainly of the Ofuna variety, which was bred for export from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa period. At its peak, tens of thousands of flowers bloom.
 
● Roses
The rose garden has about 1,200 plants of about 370 varieties. Native species, old roses, modern roses, climbing roses, etc.
 
● Japanese iris
There are about 1,300 plants of about 120 varieties. Ofuna, Edo, Higo, Ise, etc., which were bred here from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa period.
 
In addition, the garden has a “Lawn Square” (in front of the Greenhouse) and a “Picnic Ground” (beyond the exhibition hall) where you can enjoy a picnic atmosphere. It is perfect for lying down or eating your lunch. You can also enjoy a leisurely meal while looking at the view from the wooden deck space of the cafe.
