Kamakura National Treasure Museum

Kamakura National Treasure Museum

Kamakura Sta. Area

The Kamakura National Treasure Museum opened in 1928. Building on the experience of losing local cultural assets in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the museum is tasked with protecting time-honored cultural heritage from disasters. It has received numerous treasures on loan from temples and shrines located within the city of Kamakura.

All of the treasures, which preserve traditions dating back to the Middle Ages, are valuable, and the museum stores and exhibits a number of works, including national treasures and important cultural properties.
