《Ichijo Ekan Villa》
Ichijo Ekan Villa was built in Nishigamo, Kyoto, as a detached villa for the Ichijo family by Ichijo Ekan, the ninth son of Emperor Goyozei. At first glance, it looks like a country house, but Ekan himself designed it, and it is a teahouse for the imperial family, filled with elegance and rustic charm.
There is a record that a tea ceremony was held at this villa in 1646 (the third year of Shoho), at the beginning of the Edo period. After the war, the only surviving villa was moved to Kamakura, and in 1964 it was designated an Important Cultural Property by the government.
You can enjoy the Kyoto-style garden, including the dry landscape garden favored by Kanamori Sowa, a tea master of feudal lord origins, the walking path that overlooks the natural rock surface of Namekawa River up close, and the elegant stroll-style garden that changes beautifully with the seasons.
《Cafe Yamamomotei》
This cafe is located inside Ichijo Ekan Sanso. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can enjoy sweets and coffee while looking out at the pristine landscape of Kamakura’s rocky mountains and Namekawa River. Please feel free to stop by here for a break after your stroll.
